Description
Product Overview
The Allen-Bradley 1746-NT8 is an 8-channel Thermocouple/mV Analog Input Module for the SLC 500 system. It accepts J, K, T, E, S, R, B, and N thermocouple types, as well as ±50mV and ±100mV signals. This module delivers 16-bit resolution with Sigma-Delta conversion for precise temperature measurement.
Core Functionality
The 1746-NT8 converts analog thermocouple or millivolt signals to digital values for SLC 500 processors. It features automatic calibration every 2 minutes, selectable filter frequencies, and open-circuit detection (zero, upscale, or downscale). Two cold-junction compensation sensors on the 1746-RT34 terminal block ensure accurate temperature readings. The module supports engineering units, PID-scaled, or proportional counts data formats.

Installation Guide
Install the 1746-NT8 in any SLC 500 chassis slot except Slot 0 (reserved for CPU or communication adapters). Connect thermocouple or millivolt sensors using the 1746-RT34 removable terminal block. The terminal block includes two CJC sensors. Ensure input devices have impedance under 100Ω for rated accuracy. Configure input type and data format (engineering units, PID-scaled, or proportional counts) in the SLC 500 program.
Engineering Advantages
This module supports eight thermocouple types plus millivolt inputs, offering flexibility for diverse temperature measurement applications. Sigma-Delta conversion with programmable filtering provides noise rejection >100dB at 50-60Hz. Automatic calibration ensures long-term accuracy. Open-circuit detection with selectable response helps identify sensor faults. The module fits both fixed and modular SLC 500 systems.
