Network Wiring & Grounding Guide
- Use shielded cables to reduce electrical noise. Ground the shield at one end only (DIN rail side).
- Chassis ground connection is not available on the 1734-485ASC terminal block. Ground at the DIN rail instead.
- For RS-485: Use 2-wire connection (Data A, Data B) with termination resistors at both ends.
- For RS-422: Use 4-wire connection (TX+, TX-, RX+, RX-) for full-duplex communication.
Installation & Field Application Guide
- Mount the module on a compatible wiring base (1734-TB series).
- Set keyswitch position to 2 before installation.
- Connect RS-485 or RS-422 devices using the appropriate terminal block connections.
- Configure buffer sizes (default 20/20 bytes) and I/O message size as required.
Why Choose the 1734-485ASC
- Supports both RS-485 and RS-422 networks for flexible integration.
- Compact POINT I/O form factor saves panel space.
- Designed for ASCII device communication in industrial environments.
- Easy DIN rail mounting with removable terminal block.
Field Engineer FAQs
Q1: What is the difference between RS-485 and RS-422 support on this module?
A1: The module supports RS-485 (2-wire, half-duplex) and RS-422 (4-wire, full-duplex) networks. Select the appropriate mode based on your device requirements.
Q2: Where should I ground the cable shield?
A2: Ground the shield at one end only. Connect to the DIN rail (chassis ground) as the terminal block does not provide a ground connection.
Q3: How do I configure buffer sizes for the module?
A3: Default buffer sizes are 20 bytes for both transmit and receive. Modify these in the configuration file if more than 20 bytes is required.
