Installation Guidelines
Probe Case Torque: Maximum rated torque for 3/8-24 UNF probe cases is 7.3 N·m (65 in·lb). Recommended torque is 5.1 N·m (45 in·lb).
Connector Torque: Finger tight maximum. Do not exceed 0.56 N·m (5 in·lb).
Minimum Bend Radius: 25.4 mm (1.0 inch) with or without stainless steel armor.
Gap Setting: Recommended gap for radial vibration is -9 Vdc, approximately 1.27 mm (50 mils). Linear range begins at approximately 0.25 mm (10 mils) from target.
Field Wiring: 16 to 24 AWG recommended. Use 3 conductor shielded triad cable with tinned field wiring. Maximum length of 305 meters (1,000 feet) between Proximitor Sensor and monitor.
Temperature Note: Exposing the probe to temperatures below -34°C (-30°F) may cause premature failure of the pressure seal.
FAQs
Q1. What is the advantage of 8mm probes over smaller sizes?
A1. 8mm probes provide thicker encapsulation of the probe coil in molded PPS plastic, resulting in a more rugged probe. The larger diameter probe body also provides stronger, more robust case protection against physical abuse.
Q2. What is the maximum field wiring distance from Proximitor Sensor to monitor?
A2. Maximum length is 305 meters (1,000 feet) between the 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor and the monitor. Frequency response varies with longer cabling lengths.
Q3. Are the probes pressure tested before shipment?
A3. No. Probes are not pressure tested prior to shipment. The sealing material consists of a Viton O-ring. Contact the custom design department if pressure seal testing is required for your application.
